Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Platinum Perpetual Calendar now in a new metal

The Perpetual Calendar complication is one of my favorite functions in a watch. No doubt, electronic calendars are completely capable of correcting the dates during a leap year. However, it’s the charm of getting a movement do the same for you, on your wrist watch, has a level of charm that can’t be replicated.

We recently saw the announcement of Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar in white ceramic. The all-white look teamed with a Blue dial, showcasing the ‘Grande Tapisserie’ pattern, was a refreshing update to the collection. This time around, we are ready to take a look at the Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar in platinum.

It’s All About the Metal

Audemars Piguet brings us a 20-piece limited edition of the Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar in platinum. The ceramic version that we saw in 2017, forms the base for this new timepiece, in terms of dimensions, movement and dial.

This version is all about the metal – platinum. Putting it into the spotlight, Audemars Piguet has crafted a 41 mm case and matching bracelet, in this precious metal. The exhibition caseback gives us the perfect view of the movement, which accurately calculates the leap years.

Movement and More

The Royal Oak Platinum Perpetual Calendar has a screw-locked ‘AP’ emblazoned crown, and thanks to the care, it is water resistant up to 20 meters. This time around, we see a black dial with ‘Grande Tapisserie’ pattern and two-tone black and rhodium-toned counters.

The white gold applied hour-markers and Royal Oak hands with luminescent coating, add to the sophistication. Apart from the Perpetual Calendar function, the watch also hosts a moon phase indicator. This part has been crafted by using laser that has been laid on aventurine. You will need to correct the moon phase astronomical indicator once every 122 years and 108 days.

To sum up the complications on this watch, we have perpetual calendar with week indication, day, date, astronomical moon, month, leap year, and of course the hours and minutes.

Under the dial is an automatic caliber 5134 that provides 40-hour power reserve. This exclusive Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar is priced at $166,800.
