The 2020 Hyundai Palisade offers more bang for the buck in the midsize SUV segment

South Korean carmaker Hyundai recently disclosed full pricing for the all-new 2020 Hyundai Palisade. In what is deemed to be a surprising move, it seems the Hyundai Palisade will have a lower base price than the Kia Telluride.

It’s interesting to point out both the Palisade and Telluride are riding on a shared platform. And while we’re led to believe the Telluride is the more rugged (and less premium) SUV between the two, it turns out the Hyundai Palisade (which is purportedly a more luxurious version of the Telluride) offers more bang for the buck.

The new Hyundai Palisade starts at under $32,000

The base Palisade SE starts at $31,550. With this, you get the same 3.9-liter direct-injected V6 motor, eight-speed automatic, and front-wheel-drive in the Telluride. The Palisade SEL starts at $33,500 while the SE with all-wheel drive starts at $33,250. The Limited trim comes with all the bells and whistles for under $47,000. The prices do not include freight charges and/or destination fees.

The new Palisade has a lower base price than Kia. The base Telluride LX starts at $31,690 while the top-of-the-line Telluride SX has a $41,490 base price.

This means the all-new Hyundai Palisade is also cheaper than the 2020 Subaru Ascent and 2020 Ford Explorer, even if both competitors are equipped with standard all-wheel drive. Interestingly enough, the new Palisade is also charging head-on with the next-generation Toyota Highlander.

The base model is well-equipped

Back in the day, choosing the base trim means getting only the bare necessities. But despite having a lower base price than almost all midsize seven-seat SUVs, the Hyundai Palisade comes with a bevy of standard kit.

This includes a large 8-inch touchscreen display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, five USB ports, underfloor storage in the cargo area, and bench seating for the second row. The SEL gives you front power and heated seats, captain’s chairs in the second row, dual-zone climate control, and push-button start. Higher trim models get Nappa leather seats, a dual-panel sunroof, and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster.

The Hyundai Palisade is a three-row SUV with enough room for seven or eight passengers.

The new Hyundai Palisade gets an impressive array of standard safety kit

Hyundai’s new midsize SUV is also equipped with an array of standard safety features. This includes automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane keeping assist, forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go functionality, and a driver attention warning system. Higher trim models receive blind-spot collision avoidance assist and rear-cross traffic collision assist.

It has a powerful V6 motor

Regardless of trim model, the all-new Hyundai Palisade is powered by a 3.8-liter V6 motor generating 291-horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque. The engine is mated to an eight-speed automatic and front-wheel drivetrain.

If you want an all-wheel-drive system, Hyundai is offering the Palisade with the HTRAC AWD in the Palisade SE, SEL, and Limited trim.

The new Hyundai Palisade replaces the Santa Fe XL

The Palisade is Hyundai’s newest and biggest SUV with three-row seating. It’s three inches longer than the Santa FE XL and spans a four-inch longer wheelbase. This allows for more legroom in the second and third-row seats. The second-row passengers get more than 40-inches of headroom and 42.4-inches legroom while the third row offers 31.4-inches of legroom.

With the third seats up, you get 509-liters of cargo room in the Hyundai Palisade. If you need to carry more stuff, folding the rear seats gives you 1296-liters (45.8 cubic feet) of room.

The 2020 Hyundai Palisade will arrive at dealerships in summer 2019.
