The Ford GT MK II is the wildest Ford GT yet

Ford says the new track-focused GT MK II is the next level of Ford supercar performance. The limited-edition Ford GT MK II is the brainchild of Ford Performance and Multimatic. It’s basically a Ford GT with steroid-infused muscles on a Keto diet.

Confused? Don’t be. “The GT Mk II unleashes the full performance potential of the Ford GT without any artificial performance limitations dictated by racing sanctioning bodies,” said Hau Thai-Tang, Ford chief product development and purchasing officer.

If you belong to a rarified few who thinks the ordinary Ford GT is not fast enough, your prayers have been answered with the GT MK II.

The Ford GT MK II is conceived for racing

You may have not heard of Multimatic before, but the motorsports company played a big role in building and designing the production GT. Working with Ford Performance in the FIA World Championship and IMSA Weather Tech Sports Car Championship gave both companies the necessary knowledge and experience to build an extreme version of the Ford GT. “It’s the closest GT owners can get to the Le Mans-winning performance and exhilarating feeling of crossing the finish line in the Ford GT race car,” added Thai-Tang.

Production of the Ford GT MK II is limited to 45 units only

And it’s expensive, too. The Ford GT MK II is built in Markham, Ontario and is limited to 45 units only. Prices start at $1.2 million each.

If you think about it, that’s not a lot of money for a potent, track-tuned, and dedicated supercar. The base Ford GT Carbon Series starts at around $500,000 but the MK II version will run circles around it when unleashed on a proper race track.

It has a more powerful engine

First, the juicy bits. The limited-edition Ford GT MK II has a more powerful 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged Ecoboost V6 motor producing 700-horsepower, which is 50 more than the road-going GT. The engine is mated to a recalibrated version of the road car’s seven-speed dual-clutch automatic.

What’s more surprising is the GT MK II produces 200-horsepower more than the GT Le Mans racing car. And since the GT MK II is free from the limitations and sanctions of a proper race car, Ford Performance and Multimatic were able to go all out on the speed mods.

The hike in power is attributed to a massive roof-mounted GT-style intake scoop and an intercooler water sprayer system. The latter is pretty similar to the ones fitted in the Porsche 911 GT2 RS, M4 GTS, and tuned examples of the iconic Subaru Impreza WRX STI. Featuring spray nozzles with atomizers, this system virtually eliminates heat soak for longer endurance on the track.

It also comes with new legs and new shoes

Accompanying the hike in power are new suspension, wheels, and tires. The Ford GT MK II is equipped with a new five-way adjustable suspension developed by Multimatic. This kit includes race-derived DSSV (Dynamic Suspensions Spool Valve) dampers with a high-speed blow-off system for tighter handling and better agility. Removing the adjustable ride height suspension from the road car saves 200 pounds of mass over the road-going version of the GT.

The Ford GT MK II is also fitted with unique and lightweight 19-inch wheels and Michelin Pilot Sport GT racing tires. Stopping power is courtesy of 15.5-inch front and 14.1-inch rear carbon-ceramic Brembo brakes, which were derived from the GT road car.

The Ford GT MK II is the most aerodynamic GT, too

As you probably expect, the racing nature of the Ford GT MK II means the car is festooned with a plethora of aerodynamic exterior panels. The large GT-style intake scoop in the rear is complimented by a new dual-element rear wing that provides more downforce. The car also has a new front racing splitter and diffuser along with new dive planes and fender louvers.

All these changes enable the Ford GT MK II to pull more than 2Gs of lateral grip. The setup also allows the car to produce 400-percent greater downforce than the street-legal Ford GT.

So if you think the road-legal Ford GT is a bit tame, the GT MK II will make you a believer. So, would you like to see this car in all its racy glory? Head over to the Goodwood Festival of Speed to get a glimpse of the new Ford GT MK II.
