Fans will have a lot to love in the Black Line Special Edition of the 2020 Lexus NX 300. While the Black Line badge is mostly an appearance package, it also includes some new features to further enhance the luxury appeal of Lexus’ smallest crossover. Earlier this year, the Japanese carmaker infused the new NX 300 with more standard safety features, but the Black Line Edition finally includes Android Auto for the first time.
The Black Line treatment is offered in both FWD and AWD models of the NX 300
The 2020 Lexus NX 300 is offered in front-wheel drive (FWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD) models. Thankfully, the Black Line treatment is available to both. We’re not sure if Lexus is also offering a Black Line version of the NX 300h hybrid, but this appearance package blends a careful mix of exterior and interior design elements to give the vehicle a more aggressive and stealthier vibe.
The Lexus NX 300 Black Line Edition starts with the Premium Package
The 2020 Lexus NX 300 is offered in two trim levels: NX 300 and NX 300 F Sport. But depending on your Lexus dealer, the NX 300 can be fitted with either Comfort, Premium, or Navigation packages. The new Black Line Special Edition builds upon the Premium package by throwing in larger 18-inch gold wheels with color key over fenders.
Admittedly, we’re not the biggest fans of those two-tone bronze/black wheels. But combined with a blacked-out Lexus signature grille with a black surround, it does give the vehicle a more sinister look. Additional black treatments were also given to the fog lamp housings and exterior mirrors.
The interior receives the bronze treatment as well
The Black Line treatment continues inside with bronze stitching on the seats, door trims, center console, door mats, and key gloves. Along with blacked-out headliner, the cabin also receives heated and ventilated front seats and a heated steering wheel with Lexus Memory System. Also standard in the Lexus NX 300 Black Line Edition are auto dimming mirrors and a power moonroof.
Additionally, you also get a power rear door with kick sensor and intuitive parking assist.
It also receives an updated infotainment system with Android Auto
Lexus gave the NX 300 some new toys for the 2020 model. This includes a new Mark Levinson premium audio system and more standard safety equipment including Lexus Safety System+ 2.0. However, only Apple CarPlay came standard along with a finicky touchpad infotainment system.
Fortunately, the Black Line Special Edition now includes an updated 10.3-inch multimedia system with standard Android Auto, and you know what this means, right? This means having the capability to call out Google Assistant along with using your favorite music apps like Spotify and Pandora. You can also use Google Maps for navigation or connect with friends and family using WhatsApp.
Power is courtesy of a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine
The 2020 Lexus NX 300 Black Line Special Edition is powered by the same turbocharged 2.0-liter motor. It produces 235-horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The engine is mated to a six-speed automatic driving the front wheels. Of course, AWD remains an option.
Lexus is only making a limited run of 2,000 NX 300 Black Line Special Edition models. Available exterior colors include Eminent White Pearl, Nebula Gray Pearl, or Matador Red Mica. Prices start at $44,710 for FWD models while the AWD version starts at $46,110 (excluding $1,025 delivery and handling fees). First deliveries are expected to arrive at Lexus dealerships by November 2019.
