2020 Jeep Wrangler Freedom Edition pays homage to the U.S. Armed Forces

The 2020 Jeep Wrangler is more than just an off-road and cultural icon. It’s a proven recipe for a tough, robust, and daily-driven off-road machine. Jeep is returning the Freedom Edition in the Wrangler’s lineup. This special model is a worthy tribute to the brave men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces.

Jeep will donate $250 for every Wrangler Freedom Edition sold

Despite the military-themed exterior cues, the Wrangler Freedom Edition is for a good cause. Jeep will donate $250 with every unit sold, and the proceeds go straight to the United Service Organizations (USO).

“We are thrilled to bring the Wrangler Freedom model back to the Jeep lineup as a tribute to active and retired members of the U.S. military,” said Jim Morrison, Head of Jeep Brand in North America and has no relation to the equally-iconic frontman of The Doors band from the late 60s. “The Jeep brand has a long military history and the new Wrangler Freedom model is a small, but important way we can honor those who have and continue to serve their country.”

The new Freedom Edition is based on the Jeep Wrangler Sport S

This means modern features like automatic headlights, air conditioning, alloy wheels, heated power mirrors, power windows and locks, remote lock and unlock, and a leather-wrapped tiller. But since we’re talking about a military-inspired Jeep, the Freedom Edition receives a couple of nice touches to set it apart from a basic Wrangler Sport S.

This includes an American flag above the Jeep brand logo on the driver and passenger-side fenders. Also included is an Oskar Mike (which is military-speak for ‘On the Move’) badge on the rear tailgate and a modest Oscar Mike military star decal on the hood.

The vehicle also receives a premium black Sunrider soft-top with tinted rear windows, 17-inch alloy wheels in a satin-carbon finish, side steps, and all-terrain tires to complete the go-anywhere attitude. Meanwhile, the interior also receives Oscar Mike badging along with leather-bolstered black cloth seats with tungsten accent stitching on the steering wheel, doors, and armrest.

It has a standard V6 motor with a manual gearbox

The 2020 Jeep Wrangler Freedom Edition is powered by a standard 3.6-liter V6 motor producing 285-horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. Also standard is a six-speed manual shifter but Jeep is also offering an optional eight-speed automatic for the V6 motor. Of course, with a standard Command-Trac 4×4 system the Jeep Wrangler remains perfectly capable over rough and unpaved roads.

But if you don’t like the burbling character of a V6, you can also choose a smaller turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder as a no-cost option. However, the smaller mill is exclusively mated to an eight-speed automatic.

Jeep Wrangler Freedom Edition pricing and color options

The 2020 Jeep Wrangler Freedom Edition starts at $34,190 for the two-door model and $37,690 for the four-door Unlimited version. According to Jeep, the Wrangler Freedom Edition is initially available in Bright White, Firecracker Red, and Ocean Blue.

However, other paint colors such as Black, Granite Crystal, Billet, Sting Gray, Punk’n, Hellayella, and Bikini will follow soon after.
