There is something very grandfatherly about the way the Junghans Meister Chronoscope Watch looks. I mean it in a good way thought. It was first made in the 1930s, with an upgrade in the 1960s and today we welcome the new version of the Junghans Meister Chronoscope. One of the defining elements in the new watch, is the PVD rose gold treatment, which looks stunning with the sunray brush blue dial.
I’d like to take a few minutes to discuss the dial, which in my opinion looks very classic and is yet very modern thanks to the functions. There is a rustic charm to the wide expanse of the dial, which is because of the 40.7 mm x 13.9 mm stainless steel case. The charm lies in the way the markers have been designed and placed.
The three, six, nine and twelve o’clock markers are in rose gold finish and the minutes and seconds are in contrasting white color. The spacing between the markers is remarkable, as it gives a very wide feel to the face of the dial. This is important, because there are three sub dials hosted on the dial, and given that’s its enclosed in a 40.7 mm case, and all of it doesn’t look crammed.
In fact, it looks like they could have fitted in a few more elements, if they liked. The sunray brush blue color looks sophisticated and adds to the elegance of the rose gold finish. The Dauphine-shaped hands are coated with environmentally friendly luminous substance, and can be read in the dark. The functions of the watch include stop function, day and date. And along with this we also have the English week day display.
The logo and word ‘chronoscope’ frames the date window, which actually looks very apt as a unit placed at the three o’clock position. I think it’s the choice of keeping the date window in white, with black numerals and day of the week, that balances the whole look of the watch.
Specs for the watch include small seconds, 30-minute and 12-hour chronograph counters, and central chronograph seconds hand, which are baton-shaped and gold plated.
Under the hood is a self-winding movement calibre J880.1, that provides 48-hour power reserve. You can admire the movement through the transparent caseback. The watch is teamed with an alligator leather strap with stainless steel buckle that is PVD coated. One other talking point about the watch is the convex hard plexiglass with coating, which promises enhanced scratch resistance.
