While a small fraction of watch enthusiasts may debate the relevance of some complications like Minute Repeater, in the present times, labeling them as unnecessary thanks to modern innovations. However, there are some complications like the Perpetual Calendar, Worldtimer and Dual Time, that never lose their importance – no matter what the technological advances are.
The purpose of a Dual Time watch is to indicate time in two different timezones via the two hour hands that the dial hosts. A complication that is very popular with globetrotters, watches with this complication have the ‘home’ timezone for quick referencing. The second hour hand is sometimes referred to as the GMT or UTC hand.
Today, we will look at the Vacheron Constantin Overseas Dual Time, which makes its mark with a black dial.
Vacheron Constantin Overseas Dual Time Watch
In time for the festive season, we have a very capable Dual Time watch for your consideration, the Vacheron Constantin Overseas Dual Time Watch with a new dial color. The fact that this timepiece is sporty and classy, is just an added bonus.
We are talking about a black sunburst satin-finished dial that expands the family, which already hosts silver and blue dials. When Vacheron Constantin debuted the Overseas Dual Time two years ago, the watch made a favorable impact, however it also sparked the demand for a black dial.
Needless to say, the combination of a stainless steel watch with tool-less interchangeable strap options of steel, alligator, and rubber, is very appealing. Add to it a black dial with red highlights, and you have a winner.
Movement and More
Conforming to the details found on the older watches in this collection, the new black dial watch comes in a 41mm case. The water resistance is marked at 150 meters and under the dial is a 5110 DT automatic movement.
The functions on the watch include hours, minutes, seconds, date, second time zone and am/pm indication. The automatic movement provides 60 hours of power reserve, which is decent enough, if you ask me.
To set the time zones, simply work the crown that is at 3 o’clock. In its first position, the crown controls the local time with a jumping hour adjustment. In position, it controls the home time, as well as the dragging adjustment of both timezones and minutes. The day/night indicator showcases the home time. The pointer date at 6 o’clock can be changes via the screwed crown at 4 o’clock. The date is synchronized to the local time.
To be available from next month, keep aside $22,900 for this classy watch.
