I’ve always been a big fan of co-branding and partnerships, especially when the equity at both the sides are equally weighed. For example, as a brand ambassador, George Clooney is equally pitted with Omega and perhaps this is why their partnership – in the form of the Casamigos Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean Deep Black Watch – is on-point on many terms. First off, George Clooney has been the brand ambassador of Omega since 2007. Which means, Clooney’s personal clout and influence is very important to Omega.
It then is a no-brainer, that Casamigos Tequila – co-founded by George Clooney, Mike Meldman and Rande Gerber – come together with Omega and give us the Seamaster Planet Ocean Deep Black Casamigos. Rande’s wife Cindy Crawford has been associated with the brand since 1995, and thus it all ties in. The celebrity connection doesn’t end here, even Kaia and Presley, Rande’s children have been associated with the brand since 2017.
Let’s get on to the watch … the deep matte black design is very intense, and I love it! It takes the cues from the Casamigos Mezcal bottle, which is also matte black. It is interesting how the watch includes subtle elements of the Casamigos brand. Take the teal-colored accents on the dial, this is a reflection of the Casamigos Tequila agave logos. Since the Casamigos Mezcal bottle was designed by Rande, it only logical to take that as the base and build up the watch design from there.
The Seamaster Planet Ocean Deep Black Casamigos houses Omega’s 45.5 mm Planet Ocean ceramic GMT case with a matte black finish. It is delightful to note that the caseback is actually sapphire crystal that has been treated with a special coating, so that it looks like the dark glass of the Casamigos Mezcal bottle. The Casamigos Mezcal logo is lacquered on the back, and under the hood is a Master Chronometer caliber 8906. The functions include a second-time-zone and 600-meter water resistance rating. A black rubber strap completes the look.
