Ulysse Nardinhas quite an impressive lineup for 2019. I’m particularly fond of the FREAK X as it gives you an entry into the FREAK collection, however it’s the Skeleton X that steals the heart, with its simplistic design with a fully see-through skeletonized movement and dial, showcasing the powerful movement and its three-dimensional mechanics. Particular attention has been given to the design of the watches in this series.
You will notice that the case is more angular and less rounder. The masculinity of the design also helps in showcasing the geometric inspiration – an ‘X’ is formed by four of the indexes and its encapsulated it in a rectangle, which is then framed by a circle. Sounds complicated, but when you look at the dial, you will know what I mean.
Fired up by the heat of the summer, Ulysse Nardin Skeleton X Magma is designed with carbon-fiber tour-de-force as a testimony to the Swiss manufacture’s unmatched technical expertise. The bright magma red and black case uses carbon fiber and red, marbled epoxy resin, which makes every watch in the Skeleton X Magma series, unique.
Akin to how you would design a high-end sports car or a racing car, this watch is super light, scratch-resistant and very streamlined in the way it fits on your wrist. We all know that when its skeletonized, the inner mechanics is what is up for display, and the Ulysse Nardin Skeleton X Magma doesn’t disappoint in this department.
Getting to the basics, the watch case measures 43 mm in diameter (a resize) and has a floating movement inside. Of course, this is just an illusion, giving the watch a surreal feel. The manual-winding UN-371 movement is powerful enough to offer 4 days of power reserve. I like how the red Roman numerals mark the hours at three and nine o’clock. The index and hands host red Superluminova, completing the overall red vibe.
The hour markers at one, five, seven and eleven o’clock, help tell the time and also lend support to the rectangular box in the dial. The watch is watch is water-resistant to 50 meters and is teamed with black leather strap. Pick this piece up for $25,000.
