What to do when you have too much money in the bank? Buy a new house. Check. Buy a new luxury car. Check. Travel. Check. Buy a $2 million dollar pen. Check. Okay, the last one may be too much but if you do have a lot of money, go ahead.
The Montblanc High Artistry costs that much. It is probably the most expensive fountain pen in the world right now. Montblanc has always been known as a luxury pen brand but this $2 million pen is really something.
Taj Mahal-inspired Pens Are Too Pretty
The Montblanc High Artistry collection features Taj Mahal-inspired writing instruments. The line is definitely a one-of-a-kind showcase of the beauty of Taj Mahal, the grand marble Islamic mausoleum in India built in 1632 for the favorite wife of Mughal emperor Shah Jahan.
The Montblanc High Artistry features three designs of pens. All are products of precise stone cutting and setting, enameling, goldwork, and hand engraving. Each pen looks like a traditional Mughal dagger which is an insignia of power in India. The pen cap top looks like the monumental dome of Taj Mahal.
Montblanc High Artistry Collection Celebrates Beauty
Taj Mahal is the most popular landmark in India. This is not the first High Artistry collection from Montblanc but unlike previous designs, the new pens don’t come with a clip.
The pens are fully embellished in precious stones so the $2 million price is not surprising. Solid white gold plus brilliant cut diamonds and black sapphires to stones of different color adorn the pens.

We were staying at the Oberoi Hotel Agra which has views of the Taj Mahal on the day when the preparations were taking place for the Montblanc Taj Mahal High Artistry Pen launch that evening. I believe Montblanc’s most distinguished customers were invited to the launch. What a magnificent pen!
